As I think back to my old days, little by little things start to resurface. As noted in the previous post of Larry & Phyllis, I think it would be reasonable to assume that the comedy duo of Buddy & Jim would have succeeded L&P. One skit involving Buddy & Jim had to do with the "complicated" task of making a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. Even by putting both of their brains together, it seemed that the sandwiches that they made turned out to be inside out with Buddy or Jim saying "Now my fingers are in the peanut butter and my thumbs are in the jelly" And then the same thing again only vice versa! there were other skits they did also but I forgot...can someone please confirm this or remind me of what else they did? I know there were more! HELP!!!

Actually, Buddy and Jim were around before Larry and Phyllys. They appeared during the first season. I've read that they were in the first episode.

Yes, they were in the very first episode trying to hang a picture on a wall.
In November 1970, an article in Time magazine described Buddy and Jim as
"a walking Polish joke".

First was Buddy and Jim, then in Season 2 came Larry and Phyllis, then in Season 3 came Wally and Ralph.

Wow, what a way of looking at it. I wonder if a mainstream magazine would say something like that today. I'm sure that's not what CTW intended. I think it was a mixture of old fashioned comedy routines and allowing children to feel smarter than adults for once. I enjoyed Buddy and Jim, but I think Wally and Ralph were the best.

I can't understand why these kind of skits aren't shown anymore. They had absolutely nothing to do with the street format and they were relatively timeless.

Not only were Buddy & Jim and Wally & Ralph remarkably similar in their format, both duos did the PB&J sandwich routine. One big difference was that when W&R did the "collide our bread slices together" move, one of them ran offscreen and we heard a loud, lengthy, exaggerated crashing/toppling sound (all they said was "you missed".). When B&J did the same, the other just arced around back to center-stage.

The Wally & Ralph routines were more sophisticated in terms of camera angle and props, and also had a recognizable music phrase at the end of their skits.

I really enjoyed the Buddy and Jim routines, and waited for years to see them again before I realized they were (inexplicbly) gone for good. At least until Noggin appeared, so that was, what, 29 years?

The one thing I didn't remember.

Of all the things they aired on that first episode, Buddy and Jim was the one and only thing I didn't recall seeing when I saw the pilot episode again for the first time a few weeks ago. It really surprised me that I couldn't remember it, too, because everything else shown emmediately resurfaced in my memory the moment I saw it again. But, when it came to Buddy and Jim, I just drew a blank.
