BOO! The "What Scared You Today?" Thread

I have no idea what in the world was going on, but when I turned on my computer this morning, almost the whole thing was completely wiped out! Really: I had no internet, all of my library folders had disappeared, the theme was reset to Windows Classic with a 800x600 resolution, and I kept getting error messages saying that I didn't even have a desktop . . . it was almost as if my computer was reset to the original factory settings somehow. I'm guessing whatever Windows Update I installed yesterday was really corrupted or something, because that's the only thing I did differently on my computer yesterday.

Needless to say, I opened up System Restore quick, fast, and in a hurry, and restored to the most recent restore point (which was yesterday morning), and now things are back to normal. I think I'll avoid Windows Updates for the time being.

and people wonder why i go out of my way to avoid updating my computer. updates never go right and my friend who's in IT keeps berating me for it saying updates can never go wrong. My friend in IT is an idiot

Honestly, this was a first for me. The only problems I have with updates are ones for Microsoft Silverlight - no idea what it is, and the updates always fail anyway, so I just never install those updates.

windows 10 updates have been known to brick the kind of computer I have, so I just avoid it altogether. Not to mention windows like to push very unstable updates out for windows 10 that dont install correctly

java is surprisingly the program i've had most problems with and i refuse to install it on this computer. any time it updated on my old one it would cause my sound to stop working and turning the computer off then on wouldnt fix it

This scared me in the good entertaining sort of way, but I just discovered the creepypasta story ALF's Autopsy today. It was disturbing, creepy, gross, and shocking all at the same time but believe it or not, I loved it! It is one of the few creepypastas that was actually written well enough and had enough time & effort put into that it actually managed to scare me. Although I never grew up with ALF myself, the concept of a lost episode of your favorite kid's TV show that feels more at home on an adult horror flick is a pretty scary concept if you ask me. I wouldn't recommend this story to just anyone though. If you like being scared however, I think this is a perfect read but if not then avoid it like the plague! This and The Rake were the only two creepypastas that did the unthinkable:Actually creeping me out lol. While I know it's not real, I personally am TERRIFIED of The Rake. The only nitpick I have is that the story reminded a bit of the Chestburster scene from Alien. I'm not saying it's unoriginal or anything like that, but it still features that deja vu element for that reason.
