Has Big Bird always been 6 years old? Because in episode 1446 there is a girl getting ready to leave for School in Hooper's Store and Big Bird wants to go and Mr. Hooper tells him he is too young to go to school but most kid's start school at age 5 so this makes no sense at all unless Big Bird used to be 4. Does anyone else know about this?

Bird used to be 4, now he is 6. Try to see A & E's biography of Sesame Street, I recommend this to anyone; it answers so many faqs, Bird's age and character development among them. Your public library may have a vhs copy available to borrow as well.

Actually, in 1991, there was a pledge special called "Big Bird's Birthday Celebration" or "Let Me Eat Cake," and he was celebrating his 6th birthday. I bet that's when they decided to make him turn 6.

That can't be because in Follow that Bird he is reffered to as a 6 year old. Mabye that was the first time they had him turn 6, in that movie.
