As far as Robin Williams goes, sometimes the funniest people are the saddest inside: him, John Belushi, Keith Moon to name just three. They thrive on the applause, laughter,(and approval and acceptance) of others. But left to their own devices they find they have to face their own demons (ironically, Robin visited John Belushi the night before he O.D'd).
Robin struggled with depression, and drug and alcohol abuse for decades. He was loved by so many and respected for his huge talents. But nobody was close enough for him to reach out to. But so many would have in a heartbeat.
