Hey Fluffets,

Welcome to the forum. Where's Orkney?

If it's a rich and hilarious idea, isn't that a pretty good point to it? What greater point would there be to building Simpsons puppets? (Also, it has been done, many times, I'm sure)

Why Galactica specifically? I've got some stuff I can't talk about that make it a much more interesting thing than simple fan work. It makes a lot of sense. I have a plan, you might say.

Also, re CreatureWorks, I'll definitely try vacuum-forming to make the Centurions. Looking forward to that!

Hi,
Don't vacumform over styrofoam it will melt from the heat of the plastic being formed. Use floral foam or a denser foam like balsa foam. It will not last that many pulls, maybe two. after you make the first pull pour plaster or hydrocal into the plastic to make hard molds that will last. I have 4 different size vacumformers from 4"x4" to 4' x4' and have been vacumforming and making molds for 30 years, so if you have any questions let me know.

Awesome, thanks for the tip!

Do you know if you can use a palm sander effectively on floral foam to smooth things out, or will it tear it to pieces?

Hi,
Yes you could but the floral foam is very soft. It does not take that much pressure to sand it down, you can almost use just your fingers to form it. But do it outside as the dust can get every were and where a mask. The dust is not good for you. A little speck in your eye will make your eyes water for a long time so if this happens wash out your eyes with water. Vacum up whatever you sand off to keep the dust down.
