Well, the Muppetational Mosiac is finally down from the Society6 page. Here's the skinny. The absent-minded folk at Threadless believed their sister site had the same Disney authorization they did, but this is reportedly not the case and all the work they encouraged the selected artists to publish on Society6 is slowly being taken down for legal reasons. If it hadn't been for the busy holiday weekend the Mosaic would have already been completely removed.
I've been very fortunate and it's been a fun a ride, but I must express that future artists need to be
aware and take charge of their dealings with Threadless and other such sites because there is the potential of it getting really messy. The ambiguous selection process, mistakes in compensation, planned promotion that never happened and almost getting my design in trouble with Disney lawyers could have all proved very sticky if I hadn't been on-the-ball with things the entire time. Their artist liaison was very nice, but
completely aloof. Just because they're a big company doesn't mean that they know what they're doing. It's up to the individual artist to take charge of their work. Just because we receive a paycheck doesn't mean that it's over. We still have to maintain our integrity and creative reputation. I'm free and clear, of course. That last bit just scared the frog out of me!
Thanks again Threadless and Society6 for the wonderful opportunity. I won't likely submit to another Threadless competition, but they opened the door to Society6, so watch that space for some potential non-muppet-related goodness from me. I got some ideas.
