Well yeah, but I'm talking about educational programming, and a lot of it on now days is just plain not educational. Shows like Fairly Odd Parents and Sponge Bob kind of reach a bit of a wider audience and are not meant to be educational even though they might have a message or morals in them, there still leaning more towards entertainment.

I remember EC! At a Dollar General by my house, they have an old tape of it for like... $1-3. Does anybody miss Rocko's Modern Life, or Taina, or Brother's Garcia? How about Clarissa Explains It All? Or Double Dare 2000? Or Figure It Out?

I think those shows are educational in the ways of culture in their references, which is always useful. Kids need to be exposed to art and literary and pop culture references early. A lot of kids today don't know very basic literary references because no one told them. And since they don't know about it, they think it's not important.

This also brings up an interesting question (not that I want to start a debate, heh), what's more important nowadays, kid's shows that focus on education, or morals? From what I've seen, kids and their parents are desperately in need of instruction in both.

I think that pop culture at a young age is not always the best thing. I guess you would need a combination of both. I think there is a difference between educational programming(Author), and general programming(Sponge bob). One would be the E/I on the corner of the screen.

I just think just because something is mainly meant to be entertaiment doesn't mean it can't be educational too. Experts always said Television by its very nature as a medium is entertainment.

As for pop culture, I've thought this so many times, kids can't grow up only be exposed to things in their own little kiddie world. They need to appreciate sophisticated art and music etc. at an early age, otherwise a lot of them won't care when they are old enough to fully understand.

I agree, a lot of pop culture, especially today, is garbage. I don't just mean what's "cool" right now, I mean anything related to art and entertainment can be pop culture. It's really the difference between good writing and bad writing.

The old Muppets made pop culture references that are a bit dated now, but not so it overtook the Muppets. Nowadays, I feel like the Muppets let pop culture mold them.
