Dying in the washing machine give you even coverage but it causes the fabric to "pill" up. I use to use the machine, but since have started "tub" dying and the results are much better.

I use one of those big plastic tubs with the rope handles ($7-$10) or a Rubbermaid under-bed container. Both work great as long as you've taken the time to disolve your dye and wet your fabric.

I've noticed that on the last puppet I did with the antron fleece. It reminded me of Kermit from the second (or maybe the third) season of The Muppet Show. I thought maybe it just did that after being dyed. I'll try doing it in a large bucket or something.

Just a question re: washing machine? doesn't the fabric dye leave stains in the washing machine? I find that some dyes do leave marks so be careful! My mum was not happy!

We've never really had a problem with it leaving marks. Of course, we usually do a wash with nothing in it but soap right imediately afterward.

YeaHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Last night when I came home I my fleece had came and used a big bucket and dye my fleece ( i Dye probably half a yard) and I came up with a beautiful flesh tone that I like and wotking with it today. Everyone cross there fingers I'm making a GOD puppet for the Trinity, I 'll post pictures along the way and when I'm done.

Is it me Or is making puppet just really relazing!! sort of!

Good for you. I can't wait to see the results.

Super Scooter, personally, I don't mind the pilled look (I like the wabi sabi aspect of it all) but in contrast it makes the puppets look "older" than they might really be.

I didn't really mind the pilled look, either, but I always like to hear about stuff that could improve what I'm doing.

What did you use for your flesh tone? I have two "human" puppets I'm starting to work on, and I'm not sure what to use. I have box of rose pink and a box of taupe (they didn't have tan), and I was thinking of doing a bit of experimenting.
