I do think DVD should have both options, that would make things easier!

Hmm, well both options have their pros and cons. Either way, you'll be missing something. But either way, you'll get something new!

OR, they could do like when ever Disney (who has their own brand of DVDs) releases a "special edition" of a certain movie, they can put the widescreen version on one disc, and the fullscreen version on the other.

Tell me about it, those black bars are SOOOOO annoying... and the thing of it is they say fullscreen cuts a lot of the picture out, but I've been checking, and it's the black bars that do the actual cutting because they over lap of whats on top and what on the bottom of the frame!
Thats only half true. There are two types of formats that movies use. When a movie is filmed for widescreen format, then usually the sides are cut off when transfered to full screen, BUT if a movie was filmed for a fullscreen format, then the lines do cut off the top and bottom of the picture when put into widescreen

Example: Ice Age was "filmed' for widescreen veiw, just compare the images.
The Muppet Movie was filmed in Fullscreen

I perfer widescreen though, I hate fullscreen. But I guess a choice is nice. As long as they arent those stupid 2 sided disks. GAH! I can never figure out which side is which until I play the movie

There core of the DVD should have a small circular label that says something like "Side 1" or "Side A" on one side and "Side 2" or "Side B" on the other.

I have a dual layer DVD like that. With a side 1 and a side 2. I also have that Who Framed Rogger Rabbit Vista Edition DVD, and it has two different disc. One has the widescreen virsion and the other has the fullscreen virsion. Thet both have different special features on them, too!

I don't know who has it as well, but I've got a copy of Ice Age that's a two-disc edition, and while one disc only has the actual movie on it (WITH the option to view in either widescreen or fullscreen), the other disc is all special features.
