How long did Herbert Birdsfoot last on the show exactly? He seemed mostly active around the second season, and to be honest, I always had a hunch he vanished after that season.

I remember seeing that photo for the first time in one of the Sesame Street Treasury books, I believe it was in color in the book as well.

According to Muppet Wiki, it would seem the last time he appeared in a new insert was Season 5.

I've seen this photo before, too. It's in the Sesame Street Library Volume 10 (1978). There's a speech bubble above Big Bird that reads something like, "Okay everybody, dig in!" (I had the SS Library as a kid, all the volumes except for 3, 14, and 15.)
