 Hi. My sister had a question. She (tradically) hates the Muppets. Today when she was making fun of them, she stumbled upon a question. Why are the Muppets called the Muppets? Why not the Huppets for Henson? She asked me, but I don't know the answer. I don't know if this is basic Muppet knowledge or what, but I don't know and my sister will bug me if I don't answer her. Help please? Thanks
Valerie

Muppet is the combination of Marionette and Puppet, which is basically what a Muppet is.

In an interview (http://www.muppetcentral.com/articles/interviews/jim2.shtml), Jim Henson said,

'It was really just a term we made up. For a long time I would tell people it was a combination of marionettes and puppets but, basically, it was really just a word that we coined. We have done very few things connected with marionettes.'
