i emailed Disney dvd.com and asked them this question about MFC on dvd for christmas 2006 heres the email that I JUST got back...

So... if ya ask me it sounds like it just may be re-released THIS YEAR, 2006, FOR CHRISTMAS!!! YOOO HOOO! I encourage EVEYONE here to KEEP bugging Disney dvd from now til end of summer or fall!!!!

since Disney now owns the Muppets, under the Muppets Holding Company... is it
possible to see Disney release the 1987's tv show "A Muppet Family Christmas".
It would be nice to see it UN-cut! as when it was released buy Sony (before the
Disney deal) it was all choped up since Henson could not get most of the songs
for the VHS and dvd releases, Disney tends to have 98% of these songs! So we
would like to see a "A Muppet Family Christmas: Collector's Edition." this year
for Christmas 2006!

I think our interpretations of their response differ slightly! Maybe I'm too much of "the glass is half empty" kinda of a guy but to me they are saying there are no plans to release it but as you've shown some interest they'll make a note of it... I think it's highly unlikely that they'll rush this straight into production for Christmas this year!

I think the Columbia TriStar UK release of A Muppet Family Christmas is as close as we'll get to a special edition (it has most of the missing stuff included including the most important bit featuring the Muppet Babies and includes the full-length The Christmas Toy as an extra feature!) - is that DVD out of print now following the Disney deal or is just the old butchered US release that went OOP?

Sadly yes it is now out of print. So pick it up while you can!
