If you're searching for Oscar, just wait until the end of the Sesame Street segment - you'll see at the main back behind the apartment complex a trash can lid slowly closing and a green little muppet desending inside - that my friends is Oscar the Grouch hiding from the media...LOL! You konw about his scandal, don't you? LOL *Joking!* And the Big Bird balloon debuted in the parade in 1984 - This was announced in the 75th Annual Macy's Day Parade by Katie Couric. I'm guessing the balloon was also to help promote the 1985 release of "Follow That Bird" the following year? But I do remember her saying that...
