1970's Elephant Character

When I was a child about 5 years old (1976) I remember watching on TV a show where Ernie was in a swing talking with Bert, then I remember that a woman guest of the show approached with them to talk; after that I think a kind of elephant came and with his snout he surrounded the woman and then I remember the elephant going backstage and returning back covered with a white blanket and the woman over him.

The above explanation is not quite accurate of the events that happened but that's what I remember. I would like to know the name of this elephant like character. I am also interested in finding out in which episode of Sesame Street this happened and what is the name of the woman guest that was surrounded with the snout.

I would think this episode is from the early seasons of Sesame Street before 1976.

Thanks for the information. I guess you are right. It should be Snuffy.

By the way do you know the episode number or season number (year) and who was the celebrity guest star that appears in this particular show I mention with Snuffy.
