October 1, 1920: Walter John Matthow (real name of Walter Matthau) was born to Mixed Jewish Immigrant parents in New York City, New York, the younger of 2 boys (including an elder brother, Henry Matthow); he lived 79 years until dropping dead of a Massive Heart Attack in Santa Monica, California on July 1, 2000, 3 months shy of 80.

Many of you remember Walter for his MANY film pairings with Jack Lemmon (born on February 8, 1925 in Newton, Massachusetts; died of Bladder Cancer at age 76 on June 27, 2001 in Los Angeles, California), starting with "The Fortune Cookie," continuing with "The Odd Couple" (the original Film Adaptation of Neil Simon's hit Broadway play) and its 1998 sequel, "The Odd Couple II"; and "Out to Sea."

Walter also appeared as Mr. Wilson in the 1993 Multiplex remake of "Dennis The Menace," made for Warner Bros. and Written by John Hughes and Directed by Nick Castle; even though the movie was "Dennis The Menace," Walter got top billing.

Happy 100th Walter Matthau! I know you’re a bit too dead to read this, but I’m saying it anyway.
