They are taking a lot of liberties (and generalizations) with these characters. I think they're aiming at the crowd that isn't as into the Muppets as we are but knows just enough, but I totally agree with you; it just doesn't feel right.

I skimmed the episode and there were a lot of chuckle moments but nothing that stood out above the rest for me. "Kermit, be a hero and get me 1/8th of an Advil" was good.
