I'm going to be a puppeteer in Little Shop Of Horrors!

It is in fact a hot and sweaty role, but enormously gratifying! The first time I did it I lost 15 pounds during the course of the run. Sadly, the second and third runs I did of it I didn't lose a single pound! Do have fun with it and keep us posted!

FAO Schwartz: Muppet Whatnot Workshop coming October 22

LOL! I swore when I left retail 20 years ago I would never return. This is the first thing I've ever seen that would actually make me reconsider... Now I just have to find a way back to NYC to get a few...

    rod puppet mech

I know that Mike "Propologist" had posted about exactly this thing some time ago. The thread link is here: http://forum.muppetcentral.com/showthread.php?t=20828 His links to the pictures don't appear to be working at this time, but if you contact him I'll bet he'd hook you up with the pics...

Take A Peek Inside My Workshop

I don't know all of the ramifications of the range hood option, but I do know that some vapors can cause explosions within fan motors, which is why spray booths and the like are required to have explosion-proof motors in their fans. I'd really hate for there to be an unfortunate accident in...

    Puppet Heap is Hiring

Well, we should certainly take your word for it! You're an insider after all... you must know what Disney's budgets are, etc... and yet that has not been substantiated in any way now, has it? I think the new Piggy looks different. Not necessarily better or worse, but yes, she's a bit different...

    Puppet Heap is Hiring

Your word may be as good as anyone's, but your attitude is clear. Welcome to the forum. I hope that you're able to find some friends here, but somehow it doesn't seem very likely to me. You've been here a whole week and the majority of your know-it-all posts are complaints.

    Puppet Heap is Hiring

Boy, someone is COMPLAINING about Buck being kind enough to pass along possible work? Yeah well, I live in Montana, so there's no way it could benefit me. But guess what? This forum isn't about me. Nor is it about you. It is a collective experience where kind and wise people share information...

    HELP! Filming and sound question

An eighth-inch plug is only part of the equation. The connector can be the right size, but what's coming through the wire can be very wrong! If you use a wireless setup you'll need one per performer for good and even sound. So thus you'd need a mixer to send to signal to the camera's input...

    Rant in E Minor.

Dagger- You bring up many legitimate complaints, but at the same time you must remember that you live in a free-market economy. Redmoon and Thomas (neither of whom I've previously heard of) may indeed indulge in esoteric, self-absorbed crappy avant garde theatre, and while it is certainly not...

Performing with a character in front of the puppeter

Because this is not Bunraku, this is a style known among magicians as "Black Art". There are certainly similarities in manipulation styles, but the Japanese form you alluded to in your original post (Bunraku) does not rely on the specialized lighting and setting. Bunraku is performed in full...

Performing with a character in front of the puppeter

You're referring to Bunraku, and no, there is no black background. Each character is manipulated by multiple performers, and the "apprentices" do wear black, but the "master" puppeteers are in elaborate and colorful costumes. The greenscreen technique you mention is only applicable in cinematic...

Avenue Q 5th Anniversary on Broadway

I'm guessing that Stephanie D'Abruzzo did her Avenue Q work before she signed on with the Workshop... No, Rick Lyon, Stephanie D'Abruzzo and John Tartaglia had all been working for Sesame Street when AQ was in development...

Avenue Q 5th Anniversary on Broadway

Here's a link to Broadway.com's video feature on Avenue Q's 5th Anniversary. It features original puppeteers Rick Lyon, Stephanie D'Abruzzo and Jennifer Barnhart. It's always nice to hear a puppeteer's unaffected voice!

NEED LOTS OF HELP! BUILDING PROFESSIONAL PUPPET! *All help greatly appreciated*

Strictly speaking, to make a professional puppet you just make a puppet and then pay it for being a puppet. However, to build a professional-quality puppet, well that's a completely different kettle of fish! A broom painted blue with sunglasses and a rubber ball nose could be considered a...

Performing with a character in front of the puppeter

For the right style of performance I think a visible puppeteer is fine. But some styles will still be best served by hidden performers. I think the clothing all depends on the venue. For a more "formal" event I'll do the basic black. But for more casual settings I just want to look appropriate...

How to repair a fallen-off puppet arm

When I build puppets like these I reinforce the foam using "plastic canvas". I found some 3" circles at the local JoAnn's store. I glue them to the inside of the body centered where the "stud" of the doll joint will go through the foam. I cut a hole to accommodate the stud, and attach as usual...

I'm going to be a puppeteer in Little Shop Of Horrors!

Mine were overbuilt at right under 100 pounds, and I was able to shift focus rather easily. The only thing that hindered any of my movements was the counter/cash register in one production that prevented my being able to "look" too far stage right. In my opinion, if the puppet can't look around...

    Using Bike Cable?

Whiile you certainly could use bike cable, in this case it might be overkill. If your mushrooms are just made of foam rubber you might be able to simply attach a monofilament line from the brim of the "cap" of the mushroom through the base of the stalk and terminating with a basic split ring...

What are your feelings about adult puppetry?

Avast, Stacyrebecca! You bring up a point of distinction:not intended for children and not suitable for children. They are not necssarily the same thing. As an example that I mentioned before, my magic show is not intended for children, but it is certainly suitable for children. So "intended...
