Puppet Performer Auditions in NY - 6-18-04

Hi guys, I'm going to be the puppet coordinator on an upcoming project and I thought this would be a good place to give a "heads up" about performer auditions. If anyone can think of some other sites where I can get the word out, please post here or shoot me a PM or an email...

    Successful Muppet recreations

thanks Tygerbug! The big dog is Chappy... he's a fun one. Large, heavy puppet with a little cable mech to raise his brow... good ole live hands puppet. (and a good ole dog as well) "your best puppets manage to conjure up that feel while being original creations." That's about the...

    Successful Muppet recreations

Yes. it can be a bit difficult to get the paint even, but if it was easy, it wouldn't be fun ;) I did the Chef with the mouth closed... it just seems like that's the way the original was when "at rest". (mouth seems to wrinkle oddly when open, rather than when closed, ya know?) Other...

    Successful Muppet recreations

I used CREATEX paints through an airbrush, sprayed wide with a lot of light coats. It's tough to paint foam cus the paint always soaks in. The scissors are a tough one to describe (and tougher to find.) I don't even have a good pair anymore. Think of them like large scale cuticle scissors...

    Successful Muppet recreations

Oddly enough, it doesn't snag... tho it can so you've gotta be careful. The type of sander u want is the kind that stands on it's own with a large belt. You then hold the piece over it and lightly touch the surface. It's definately something you could hurt yourself doing, so obviously don't...

    Successful Muppet recreations

Exactly right on both counts... carved from a square block and yeah.. tough to get right! I really enjoy sculpting and molding over carving, but running foam in a home oven just isn't practicle. Start off with an electric carving knife and get your basic shapes, then use a pair of curved...

    Successful Muppet recreations

thanks! Well, lesse here. Kermit is indeed foamless in his head. (but i think that's common knowledge. I never did get to mess with the real one. ) Most of them have a rubbery mouthplate. Some larger ones have finger "grabs" on the upper. Size? Well, for me, they were SMALLER than...

    Successful Muppet recreations

Re: Anders, Do it man! A chunk of foam and some scissors and you're on your way! I used two identical regular men's shirts for his shirt. Used one as the main shirt and the other for scrap fabric to extend the sides into the arms. (tough to explain, but i'm sure you have an idea of...

    Successful Muppet recreations

... Thanks man! i bumped off Jimmy Fallon? keen :) I learned by a lot of error and trial... like i said, someday i'll post some old pics. (lots of error in there!) Build and build ...then build some more :) Also, i found being a puppet performer is very helpful. If you perform...

    Successful Muppet recreations

Thanks Jake (and others) for the kind words... the Yoda was just a bit of a re-do i did to an Illusive concepts yoda. The head was done by Mario Chiodo, so the sculpt was great but the finish work was done very badly. A little paint, new eyes, hand punched hair, new fingernails, a nice...

    Successful Muppet recreations

Hi all, I've done a bunch of different puppets and more than a few recreations of Muppets when i started... most were pretty so-so but a few came out better than i'd ever hoped. A lot were just patterned foam and hot glue, but the more recent ones are a bit better. Here's a gallery of...

    Mouthplate Material

mouths I often use needle point grids form the craft store. The kind made from a clear-ish plastic. They're flexible but hold their shape well. they're also not too bulky. I back them with some black gaffer tape and occaisionally add a finger grip on the upper. I make the mouth with a...
