I guess they decided against Jacko as there's already a lot of latex in the film!
Also, there's a nice piece where they ask famous film stars what their favourite Muppet is. Nick Park (Wallace and Gromit creator) says his is Sweetums and says that Sweetums' expressive eyebrows influenced Gromit...
Just to say the latest (Feb 2012) edition of film mag Empire has a great 20 page Muppets feature, including a tribute to Jim Henson, and a bit on Labyrinth also. Well worth a read. http://www.empireonline.com/magazine/
yes, I recall watching it on Saturday afternoons/early evenings. Mind you the BBC repeated The Muppet Show on Saturday early evenings so maybe I'm confused! Remember it being shown before Number 73 also!
TMS reruns on BBC1 - actually started on Saturdays after Grandstand but was moved to Wednesdays after a few months between Wogan and Dallas (not that I was obsessed or anything!!)
BBC1 showed the Muppet Show at around 5.15pm on Saturdays, immediately after Grandstand (I know because I was obsessed with TMS as a kid and hated Grandstand which I had to sit through with my dad before it came on!!)
Earliest memories...my mum had a cassette tape of the Muppet Show album so remember Fozzie on rollerskates, that annoying spanish song Miss Piggy sang. Also remember getting a bendy rubber Animal toy and it falling apart almost as soon as I got it! Also remember when Fraggle Rock debuted in UK...
Fair point, I must admit I thought it was pretty mediocre but have seen worse (remember Kermit being interviewed by Anthea Turner on GMTV around 93/94. Just awful!!!
For the benefit of Muppet fans outside the UK, here is the Muppets appearance on the X Factor in the UK on 27th November, performing with singer Olly Murs:

Kind of fun, though for me it was a sad reminder that while Saturday night tv used to be...
Obviously the saddest moment for me was hearing about Jim Henson's death on the TV news back in 1990 - I was 11 years old at the time and had followed his every TV appearance, he was my childhood hero. I also went to the big Henson exhibition they had at the Museum of Moving Image in London that...
yeh, it's all a matter of opinion I guess. I do actually quite like Pepe: "I'll spank you like a bad bad donkey" one of the best quotes in any Muppet movie, ****, any film full stop I'd say!
Hi
Monty Python and Fawlty Towers legend John Cleese gave a great interview with BBC Radio 1 yesterday and he talked about how he enjoyed his appearance on The Muppet Show and how much he admired Jim Henson and Frank Oz. It's on the BBC iplayer here (might not be able to listen outside the UK)...
I can't stand Rizzo personally, and the fact he featured so prominently in the later muppet movies ruined them for me. Yet characters that used to be main players - Rowlf, Scooter etc barely featured at all.
