Only if it's bad puppetry! Or if the material is bad.
I really appreciate an approach that uses "blue" material with intelligence. Even though it might not be my cup of tea, it at least has the potential for genuine entertainment and/or enrichment.
When it is gratuitous, or without...
WDI is not really a school, and of course they have many divisions. They get most of their people through recruiting, either through college fairs or through existing industry excellence.
In a nutshell, they're a lot more interested in what you can bring to the table right off the bat, rather...
Aw, what a shame! I'm so sorry to hear that the puppets are sub-par. It just goes to show (once again) how misunderstood puppetry is.
I wish you luck with what you are able to use.
Yes, I believe that laughs must be earned. And four-letter-word jokes are almost never actually funny.
I still remember Red Skelton closing an HBO concert in the mid 80's. The audience had just laughed themselves silly for 2 hours, and in his closing remarks he mentioned that it had all...
At the end of the day it's the perogative of the performer to do what they feel is right for their audience.
Personally, I have never felt the need to work "blue". A few years ago I enterd a talent competition that was held in a rural bar. The act right before me was a "comedian" who told the...
It puts me in mind of Burr Tillstrom's "Hand Ballets". Nothing but the man's bare hands and able ton convey emotion like nothing I've seen before or since.

It's really quite small on the screen, but well worth the watch.Truth be told, I think if one...
You have to realize though that just having the right size connectors is only half the battle. The signal type is also vitally important for good sound. A line level signal plugged into a mic input, unless properly attenuated, will be way too hot and will give distorted sound and could possibly...
So what exactly do you need help with? (Apart from punctuation and capitalization. :))
Sounds like rudimentary costuming, and there's no specific "uniform" for a reporter. Perhaps the best thing would be to outfit the puppet with a hand mic with some sort of channel ID flag on it...
Well, since you asked...
Pod #4 is another world unto itself. One of the biggest challenges I faced was a voice actor who wanted to speak very quickly. At first he balked when I asked him to slow down so I could lip sync. I figured that the only way to get him to see my point of view was to...
Cactus-
Who's puppeteering pod #4?
The puppets I've used for pod #3 had my upper body and right arm in the upper portion of the pod, and my left arm in the lower. Legs dressed in the usual root configuration. Seatbelted into the pot. The pod weighed approx 20-25 lbs (9-11k), but of course...
I think that bringing a puppet to use would be the best. A demo reel is going to have a different "vibe", and it lack the spontenaeity of performing live.
There'a a lot of truth to the old adage "you get what you pay for". You may be able to get some mics for cheap, but don't expect pristine sound. Remember too that the microphone is only the first step in the audio chain.
For good-quality audio you need to consider everything from the mic to pre...
Congrats, Zack! Puppeteering Twoey remains one of my all-time favorite roles, having done the show three times. One thing I'll say right off the bat, (if I understand you correctly) you mention wanting to voice AND manipulate the puppets.... well, you'll soon learn that it's one or the other...
The first time I did the show (about 17 years ago!) I TOLD the director that I'd be performing the manipulation because #1) she would not find anyone more qualified, and #2) she would not likely find anyone dumb enough to want to be inside the foam and steel contraption.
Of course I knew the...
Well done! My favorite part of the review is that you were funny without stealing focus from the other actors. This is high praise indeed, as the show suffers when it becomes "all about the plant" and Audrey and Seymour are relegated to seconday players.
I'm really glad that you were able to...
I'd make sure to get samples of their work before entering into an agreement of any kind. The term "professional" has many levels of meaning across many different people.
Truly you do get what you pay for.
Think of the panels that make up a globe. Several strips, vaguealy triangular in shape glued together at their edges to form spherical shapes.
While this is an oversimplification, there are MANY resources available, some of which you will have to pay (*gasp!*) for.
I really love the Grey Seals...
In an indoor situation (ie. shopping malls, etc) I could go for up to an hour, but even that was quite taxing. Outdors the 20 minute rule is very important to observe.
In either case, hydration is critical. And I would consider it an extremely good idea to have a wrangler handy at all times...
Mike (Propologist) posted some pics of Pepe/Rizzo style mechanisms some time back. I just did a search and found links to pages with these pictures. He probably knows more about these things than anyone else here on the forum!
