I know what you mean, I've seen it before :] They're generally called 'Proppets' and I've made something similar to that before. If you'd like you can PM me and I can give you details on what to do. The one I made used styrofoam but you can adapt it to use foamboard.

XD I consider myself a pretty amateur artist but when people see my CG artwork they think its pretty topnotch haha. But I think creativity is one of the essential parts of puppetry and sort of goes hand in hand with it. I'm not surprised that so many good puppeteers are also good artists

I have never attempted to shrink a pattern but admit, it does sound tempting now! The only thing is i have big hands, the biggest in my puppetry team so existing patterns work well for me since my hands fit perfectly:o However I would love to try and see how good a just right mouth plate would work!

That's good! Its always good to hang onto a character, as long as they were well made they should last a good long time. I suggest trying to clean him up as best as you can then spraying some fabric protector on it. Would immensely help keep him clean!
