I've tried that, but you're correct, the glue just doesn't sand well and is hard to cut. If you have a textile store near you, ask them about foam bolsters. I get the ten inch ones and cut my heads out of them. I know it's a project to find sheet foam that is thick enough for carving one piece...
When you say something is the best, bar none, it means nothing else comes close to it. In other words it's the bee's knees, the cream of the crop, the cat's meow, the cat's pajamas, unreal, I could go on... :D
I have the originals stored in full quality DV, which is DVD quality. But I can take them and compress or convert into other formats such as QuickTime Movie, AVI, MPEG-4, Hinted Movie, 3G and FLC. I can also convert video to PAL.
I wouldn't recommend using heat in conjunction with foam with foam being highly flammable, and it emits toxic fumes when heated. The sanding doesn't tear it, it actually sands like wood, but much quicker. I use solid foam blocks for carving heads.
I'd have to say Classic Swedish Chef, but that's a bias thing since he's my favorite character. Also, he looks much better to me than the new Chef with the blue stripes on his shirt. Second favorite is Pops, great detail, however you guys are certainly correct about the signatures in the guest book.
I already have begun doing this with recent Muppet TV appearances, I have a full professional editing suite on my Mac consisting of iMovie, iDVD, Final Cut Pro HD, DVD Studio Pro 3 and QuickTime Pro. I can import and export in pretty much any format. I've been E-Mailing footage of The Muppets...
