That's a possibility, yes. However, I have a tx date for the Kristofferson/Coolidge show - it was aired in December 1978, which makes it part of the Season 3 transmission block.

No; "full-screen" means that what you see is the entire image, be it 4:3 or 16:9. If they'd aired the film full-screen, it would be 16:9. It's 4:3 pan/scan.

Different channels may operate in different ways. On many channels a mid-season replacement would typically start in or around January, but then it would only run for two or three months, not six :-) Over here, the new TV season starts in the autumn, but this wasn't always the case - the BBC...
