Welding rods may work, but for something that large, I would have amybe considered making him a glove puppet.....But nice work nontheless!

You could also try the Melonhead pattern, with the alternate body, just be sure to extend the arms a bit more.....

Not sure about the Muppets from Muppet Show and such, but I remember reading years ago that the Sesame Street Muppets were always recycled and repaired on a yearly basis right after the end of the season. Kevin Clash said in interviews that they always have 9 Elmos in use for different things...

That looks amazing, well done. To answer your question, I would use 30mm doll joints. It's noticable in some pics of Kermit, you'll see the arms seem to overlap themselves on the top, not really totally flush with the body.... What did you use for a pattern on the body?

Welcome to the forum! If you could post a picture of the puppet we could probably better answer the question. But the quick answer is yes, legs could probably be added simply with doll joints. Build-A-Bear could help you out with clothes, or child sizes from Walmart or Target even.... Thanks,
