On the low setting it's not drippy at all, try it in a spiral pattern from the inside out. you can always add more around the edge afterwards... I've never tried making the eyes like this before, but I have done something similar with noses and never had an issue...

Use 30mm doll joints, poke a hole in the eyes and bring the doll joint up through the head, then hot glue them to the posts....

One yard should be plenty as long as you are careful with the cuts. Keep close attention to the direction the fur goes, and always cut from the back with an x-acto knife. That will keep you from making a mess, and also save you from accidentally cutting the fur too short on the other side...
