Muppet Show, Ed Sullivan, Al Hurt's show (where I think he actually did the trumpeting live, though he was off-camera)....it really is a very good variety show-style act for the Muppets. Not to mention its just so gosh darn cool. I used to draw the Slinks on my hands all the time. :) -Matt

My definative answer to the posed question is: Yes, the term "Muppet" can be and has been used as an insult in the US, and well as other places around the world (I assume, being the UK members stated as such). I'm sure it stems from the childish nature of the characters, but moreso puppets...
