I think it's very important that the character becomes real to the audience. Obviously, as has already been pointed out, they're not real, and no adult is expected to believe they're actually living, breathing things, but the character needs to become something they can relate to, that they can...

Er, um, well, while I do agree there's too much Ashanti (really, it's called The MUPPETS Wizard of Oz), I did enjoy the movie. "The Witch is in the House" and the flying monkey scenes made me want to work for the Muppets again.

I don't know about that. Jim was still trying to get a Muppet prime-time show on the air when SNL came out. There is that theory that the Muppets were on the show primarily to distance themselves from Sesame Street, and show they could work for adults as well as kids. Thus, The Muppet Show...
