His name didn't actually get changed...they are two different characters. Mahna Mahna is the Muppet version, Bip Bipadotta is the Sesame Street version. The puppets have some differences. Another thing is that Bip Bipadotta talks, whereas Mahna Mahna doesn't seem to.

Why do we care? How is it going to affect our living in a good way? It won't give us any more powers or anything else...and I can just see that knowledge affecting one of us in a bad way, with the person thinking they're better than everyone, or one of us feeling we have to worship the person...
