I figure Oscar takes one bath a year, and makes a real occasion out of it. He clearly enjoys dancing. :)
It seems pretty obvious to me that Frank Oz was not available when they were shooting this, which would explain the noticeable (and much-felt) absence of Grover and Cookie. Their not...
It sounds like you're talking about the film that keeps juxtaposing the toy bathtub boat with footage of a real tugboat out at sea. It's a lot like the one that goes back and forth between some kids in a sandbox playing with toy cranes and earth-diggers, and footage of real construction going...
I'll have to look for that when I rent it again.
All I know is, they've just brought Hoots back from oblivion recently, in the song "A Cookie Is A Sometime Food". I do NOT like his new eyes. They have a wild look that doesn't seem to fit with his character. But it still looked like the...
I have no idea how this person could possibly have gotten it, but someone uploaded the 1979 retrospective, hosted by James Earl Jones, onto YouTube---split up into three 9-minute parts. Just search Videos for sesame + street + 1979 and I'm sure you'll get it right away.
A Walk Down Sesame...
You guys are leaving out the best part! ;) When everyone's going to lunch one of the cows mutters "Hope they don't have hay again..." And a haystack turns around and quips "YOU hope they don't have hay again!?"
I have never understood how they got that bridge-collapsing footage. If that was fake it sure looked real. Did they really manage to shoot a real bridge that was being demolished? I haven't seen that film in about 10 years---maybe it would be clearer to me if I saw it again.
I love how that...
"Uh...yeah-yeah-yeah, but, ah...not have same...moustache!"
LOL.
I think they probably just hired some artist to draw that picture, and they didn't pay enough attention to whether the hat looked the same. Just sloppiness. And I think Cookie's face looking slightly different is just...
The funniest thing about that sketch to me is that "Ba-a-a-a-" sound those silly-looking sheep make,. It's like they tried to come up with the dorkiest-sounding bleat they could.
Bert: "What was that?" LOL.
(I wonder if any little kids ever saw this skit and wondered "How come it doesn't...
I'm remembering a completely different one----there was a New Year's special once where everyone's excited about the new year (1997, I think), and Telly's afraid of it. "Wh-wh-what if I don't LIKE the new year? Wh-what if it's scary? Oh no! I'll have to hide someplace where it can't find...
I couldn't believe it when that showed up on a very recent episode. Don't remember which one.
That was done by Sally Kruikshank, whose other films for SS include "Island of Emotion" and "In Crowd/Out Crowd." There's no mistaking her characters.
zhelder: I am very interested in this kind of thing so I'm curious: what is it about the character designs and settings that helps you pinpoint a certain era or year?
I had a thread somewhat related to this subject here:

Actually, the...
I don't remember where I read it (this forum maybe?) that Cerf is rather bitter about the direction Sesame Street has taken in the last several years. I can see why---his brand of humor doesn't really have a place in it, now. That the reason he left the Muppets?...
I don't like Between the...
I saw that too!! I remember thinking what a great idea and then being disappointed that Lambchop didn't get to meet more characters besides the Bird. Seems like they didn't do very much with the idea.
Still, her terrified reaction when she first saw Big Bird was hilarious. You know it well...
I LOVE those two! Just looking at them cracks me up. They are such irresistably mangy-looking spazzes. (They look like something Cookie Monster chewed up and spat out. ;) ) And once they open their mouths, forget it.
I always thought it was weird that they play at Birdland. I mean...
Off-topic, but this reminds me of Schroeder's scene in "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" from 1966. Anyone know what I'm talking about? At one point the story stops dead in its tracks when Snoopy mosies on up to Schroeder's piano and starts dancing to a WWI-themed instrumental (I forget...
I know it ain't. Just tossing out imaginary scenarios. If it WAS a regular broadcast, and I were somehow in charge of it, I'm saying that's how I'd handle the schedule.
(the people I feel bad for are the ones who were petitioning to get "Freaks and Geeks" back in production before it was...
I like to imagine the reason we don't see Lefty anymore is that he finally got busted and he's been in jail all this time. ;)
One way to entertain yourself is to try to invent reasons why selling things like STOP signs and letter O's is something to be desperately hidden from the cops. You...
I've always had this weird fascination with Little Chrissy. Dunno what it is. He just seems so enigmatic. He's strange-looking and since he has black eyes, it's harder to "read" him than it is other Muppets. And on the technical side, I've always wanted to know what his hair is made out of...
