Not sure if they have Fabricland out west, but they carry lots of patterns for clothing. All fabric stores do actually. You could probably get a good pattern for a few dollars.
The bulkiness of felt is actually a VERY important point. I actually do use felt, but construct mouths in such a way that the mouth plate is actually lower than the "lips" or edge or the puppet's mouth (kinda hard to explain here) so it's not really an issue for me. Not sure if anyone else does...
Jim actually bought the entire inventory in the 70s because the company was going out of business. Wacky Stacks were a stacking toy that were only available for a few years in the late 60s/early 70s. They haven't been sold in stores for about 30 years. Sorry!
Always a chance you might come...
If you're anywhere in Central/Eastern Canada you may want to head down to your local BlockBuster. Seems they are clearing out a lot of their old VHS and after checking a few stores I managed to scoop up several of the old "Muppet Video" Muppet Show compliation tapes from the 80s on VHS. They...
If you're in Edmonton and interested in puppetry you should consider looking up Wendy Passmore of W.P. Puppet Theatre down in Calgary. She's a great lady and very connected and knowledgable I am told. WP has a web site at www.wppuppet.com.
Another great company in your area is the Old Trout...
John Tartaglia is a really talented performer - I saw Avenue Q a few weeks ago and he was great in it. Actually all of the cast are. It's one of the best live shows I have seen in years.
My understanding of this is that it is basically a small fabric "tube" inside the puppet's hand which the arm rod is inserted in to. At least I have seen that design elsewhere.
Something I forgot to mention was that Mercury Plastics was merged with another manufacturer (Eye Design I think) awhile ago. That may be one reason their "official" minimum order amount has changed. I think I dealt with Eye Design before Mercury took them over.
Well that would explain the discrepancy. They have quoted prices on 100 pieces to many people before though.
BTW - you mean to say that their minimum order is 1,000 pieces not 100,000 right??
I think you made a good point Betty, but I believe that Mercury's actual price is about 30 - 50 cents with a minimum order of just 100 pieces for most of their products. I think the last time I checked on these (which was awhile ago) the cost for 100 eyes was about $35 US.
If anyone is on a...
Interestingly enough, Jane Henson may have spilled the beans (so to speak) on this last month at the Henson Legacy event in New York. She made several references during the Q&A to Brian and Cheryl "running the company" though there was no specific mention of the CEO title.
This makes a...
Thanks!
I had heard about this from a former employee of the shop awhile back and I got the impression they were something "custom". I've just always been curious about them...if they are patented then one day I might try to dig up the drawings for through the US patent office for the sake...
