    The Mysteries of Muppetry?

You can use almost any kind of flexible foam or rubber if you want an expressive mouth. 1/2" foam works fine, so does gasket rubber or even fun foam in some situations.

    The Mysteries of Muppetry?

I think most of those puppets were made by patterning sheets of foam, much like the Project Puppet patterns. You could also accomplish most of the round shapes using the wedge method (email me privately and I can send you the wedge pattern). Really, the best way to answer these questions is to...

    Jason 2.0 has a head!

Nice work. Is it just the photo, or is his eye focus off?

    My puppets

Just like everyone else said, great work! Especially the Gorilla. I really liked your choice of materials with that puppet.

    The Mysteries of Muppetry?

This is one of the better designs for a mouth/puppet head you'll find on the internet. It's not the only one and it won't work for everything, but it's one of the best imho.

How do I get a job as a Muppeteer?

I thought anyone reading this thread might find this interesting...a letter puppeteer Liz Vitae received back in 1995 when she sent in a tape to the Muppets. She later got accepted in to a workshop. Her Puppatoons Blog has some neat puppet and Muppet stuff.

    Finger Puppets

I subscribe to the Flickr puppet pool and one of my little online puppet joys is seeing all the work you post there.

Taking Your Puppetry To The Next Level

My last post was just what I said, some random thoughts. I wasn't specifically responding to anything anybody said. I really liked what you wrote Stacey about "gentle teachings". It reminded me of another quote I've always liked, "the quiet ones change the world, the loud ones take the credit"...

Taking Your Puppetry To The Next Level

Just some rambling thoughts after reading the discussion here...I used to hate criticism and if I'm honest with myself I still don't deal with it well and I think most people are like that. Except that criticism (the constructive and sometimes the not-so-constructive kind) are I think really...

Curious Kitchen T.V. Pilot Highlight reel

There is almost always a problem with doing puppets on a set, especially when actors are involved so I think everybody here sympathizes. One thing though...the puppet's height is completely under the puppeteer's control. If you just can't reach, you can sit on sandbags, crates, etc. I took a...

Curious Kitchen T.V. Pilot Highlight reel

Puppetry-wise, I think this looks good. The only thing I noticed is that the entire time Cheffy is too low in the frame. If you were to imagine him as a real person, he has his hands up around his shoulders, which is very unnatural. Unrelated to the puppetry, there are a couple of massive...

Presentation About HDPS and Creature Shop Tour Next Week

I'm not sure if this has already been posted here or not, but The Visual Effects Society and SIGGRAPH are hosting an event at the Creature Shop in L.A. next week (Tuesday night) that includes a guided tour of the Creature Shop as well as presentation and demo of the Henson Digital Performance...

Rumor: Avenue Q to end on Broadway

The tour is supposedly to end this spring (unless there has been an extension I haven't heard about) and I do know that for a fact. Maybe people are confusing the Broadway Show with the touring one?

    How to start making puppets?

Everybody has their own way of working, but for me patterns are essential.

    How to start making puppets?

I think it's really smart to build the puppet around its mouthplate.

Rumor: Avenue Q to end on Broadway

I can't find anything on this either. Saw an article about it closing, but then realized it was an old one about the Vegas production. There are 13 Broadways shows closing soon...does anyone have the list?

Pics of a raccoon puppet I'm building.

Looks good! I've done raccoons before, they are deceptively hard to build.

New U.S. Law About Children's Toys

The whole thing is such a stupid mess. They never intended to target handmade toys and clothes with this law, hence the campaign to get an exemption. The Handmade Toy Alliance is leading the fight against this, so I would think anybody interested should follow their lead. If you're...

New U.S. Law About Children's Toys

I think StaceyRebecca raised this issue already, but there is a new law coming in to effect Feb. 10 to make it mandatory for all toys and children's clothing for lead and (basically phthalic acid that's added to plastic). All toys - including handmade puppets - have to be tested by...
