Louise At Lauderdale
Hi J,
Yes can't resist the opportunity of seeing LG's act. It's been about three years since I last saw her do her cabaret act.

James,
You're quite right. It's an old thread, and at the time when I posted that, I didn't know. I think I was going by something Redfraggle had posted on another thread on the board, about Faffner Hall, where she said that the puppeteers were evenly divided between left and right handers...
My favourite is obviously Louise Gold. she's so versatile, talented, funny, and a great singer (she can be very very powerful, but she can also be subtle, she's got a wonderufl vocal range). In a book about Spitting Image she was described as "a tall red head who can sing, dance, and act, with...
Somewhere in at least one interview (possibly more than one - would need to read through them to be sure), Louise Gold has certainly stated that she was hired for TMS because Eren left to get married.
The Count has provided a pretty full explanation. However, it is perhaps worth mentioning the show's six star puppeteers. Evenly divided between performers who puppeteer right-handed and those who puppeteer left-handed, they were:
As Fughetta Faffner (the title role) - Louise Gold (possibly...
How could this thread forget the irrepressible Louise Gold! Who first came to note as a Muppeteer puppeteering the full-body TMS monster Big Mama (who also popped up briefly in The Ghost Of Faffner Hall). Big Mama was a big brown monster with rabbit-like ears. Although performed on TMS by...
If you don't have a copy, go and borrow the book 'Tooth And Claw The Inside Story Of Spitting Image' from the library, and read Pages 40 and 41. - it had a very brief overview of how Spitting Image originally coped with the problem.
I have been pondering the question, opn the number Happy Feet, which was sung by Kermit The Frog and a Frog Chorus in the Madeline Kahn episode of TMS, who out of the available puppeteers are singing in the 'Frog Chorus' accompanying Jim Henson's Kermit?
I know that the episode occurs quite...
Well now let me see:
The Muppet Show - when I was about nine repeats of it on BBC Television, and our next door neighbour got my mum to tape it, so he could come round and watch it on our telly.
Sesame Street - I'm not sure
Dark Crystal - well very first time must've been when I was...
Which is of course why Ms Gold would be such a wonderful choice (let's hope they at least consider her), she is a bit unusal (at least in Britain) for fitting so wonderfully into both realms. And already a notable West End performer (in recent years her West End credits have included stints in...
Quite a few Muppet characters were named after their puppeteers.
On TMS alone (as well as Betsy Bird and Fletcher) these included:
Cowboy Jerry (after Jerry Nelson),
Lou-The-Jugband-Lady (after Louise Gold)
While Sesame Street included:
Little Jerry & Herry Monster - after Jerry...
Thanks for sharing about this. It's truly fascinating, to some of us.
I had no idea that Ms Gold had ever puppeteered Sprocket or that she'd been involved with a bit of the French one. I wonder when (roughly) that was. I also wonder when the second series of the British FR was ...
If anyone (especially amongst those who are also into Musicals) is interested, I see that the latest PRINTED edition of Musical Stages magazine (see: http://www.dresscircle.co.uk/product.asp?StockID=13110 or possibly http://www.musicalstages.co.uk/ ) has an interview (by editor Lynda Trapnell)...
I thought the Sproket Assistant for the UK version was Mike Quinn, at least it was in the early episodes.
Who did Travelling Matt in the UK bits?
Its fairly well known (I think) that Louise Gold puppeteered Gobo in the UK skits and Jerry Nelson looped the voice on afterwards.
Incorrect tracklistings, especially ones that don't include characters who are certainly on them occur on several of the compilation albums. And yes there have been various instances where bits got chopped off on these compilations. Which do make things sound a little strange.
I've also...
