glorified sock pattern is a great way to start and get comfortable with the materials you'll use making them. as long as you have ideas, you could potentially make an army of sock puppets. with that army you could.. potentially take over a shoestore or tobacco shop. it's in your hands!
i don't see a problem with puppets swearing at all. the biggest problem like many others have touched on already is the fact that most people are not comedy writers. so you end up with a poorly written script laced with profanity. bottom line it's still a poorly written script.

they sell acrylic / plex rods as well that can be used. not as easy to bend, and definately not as sturdy as steel.. but you can heat them up with a heat gun to get the bends desired.

here's 2 pics i snapped quick to show the direction it's gone in so far.
ps.. is attach image...

that's very true and why the soundboards are so much more expensive! some of the computer based systems do have multiple inputs though and if you have say a person whose always quiet you could potentially put them on input 2 or something of that nature since you'll know later on you need to...
Well it seems like all of the puppeteers and puppet builders are spread throughout a pile of websites on the 'net.. so a new site has been born to try to help keep us all together...
