....after some time offline. For those of you that don't know what it is:
It's a site devoted to the creation of muppet-type puppets. There is also a forum where you can talk about/ask questions on puppetbuilding.
Be sure to visit me on muppets.zapto.org
Welcome!
you should try and find half inch thick foam, that works best for puppets. Make the body as you would make a head with 2 flat pieces and some darts here and there. It doesn't take much foam for a body like that
i am too tired to make a puppet today, so i'll do it another day :)
anyway, för those of you that want to make a gonzo-type puppet with that kind of nose, take alook at gonzo from the side, and draw his nose like that on a piece of paper, there ya go, it's the pattern :)
look at my guide...
oh, and Warrick, i'll scan the pattern i make for you later. I haven't done the complete pattern yet, but i will soon. Just need to go down to a store and buy some rupper for the mouthplates now, i'll email you later today.
Hey Warrick.
This nose is not for the puppet. When i start with the puppet (later today) i will have the nose and the rest of the head in one pattern. Not 2 seperate pieces.
I just tested it, so i'd know if it would work. I think i will spraypaint the nose and lower jaw. What colors...
I thought the biggest problem with gonzo was his nose. It's not. It's probably the easiest part. I did some experimenting and did a rough gonzo nose in about 20 minutes.
I did it not with carving a block of foam, but with 2 flat pieces of very thin (1 cm) foam. I glued them down the middle...
I think they are so cool, and really charming. This proves that you can use whatever you want to make puppets, if you only have the will.
How did you make them? What did you use?
Re: neoprene rubber is a liquid
This is sorta how you do the mouth. You do the upper and lower mouth as 2 seperate pieces. Then you put them soghether with duct tape and cover the visible parts with some fabric of your choise.

Although i never talked to her, i would like to send my condolences to her family. I know what it's like to lose a close family member. It's always very hard. What saddens me is that she had to pass away at such young age. Her life had barely begun.
I regret never having the chance to talk to...
actually, i don't know because i haven't used gasket rubber yet, due to the expensive price. I think this quetion should be passed over to someone else. Buck? As usuall, hehe...
the foam that is commonly used for muppets should not crack. What you should try to find is polyfoam (i think it's called that).
Anyway, i am dying to see your creation soon :D

Look for gasket rubber at the plumbing- or auto departement. It's often used as mouthplates. I tried to get some here in sweden, but it was really expensive.
Good Luck.

you could also buy the foam book, which explains thinks in a good way. you can go buy it on www.amazon.com
or you could go to www.armslength.com and buy the "creating custom puppets" video. It's a really good video by David Pannabecker.
