Skip ahead to about 48 minutes and you'll see Jim and Frank do the "Java" bit, as well as Gene Shalit chatting with Grover and Kermit.
The 1990's remake of "C is for Cookie" was played so infrequently. I don't know why, but I'd love for them to use it on the show again this season.
Big Bird was involved in a musical insert from season 39 and had some songs in season 40 and 41 episodes he appeared in. The Count got a new song...
The "Activate" bit I think is the best one out of all of them. It actually has gags and ends on an actual punchline. The Grover/Chris sketch is also a lovely sketch.
I agree with you on Leela, letting the characters come up with the answers on their own by talking to them at their own level...
I think the stuff on the 40 Years DVD covers a lot of the best bits from recent years. "Can't Say the Alphabet Enough" is the kind of bit we should see more of. I'd also add "Telly Tut" to the list, because it's a pretty obscure parody and a well done one at that.
The problem with the block format is that it leaves barely anytime for random inserts. If we get a really long street story, we won't even see a Muppet insert for the rest of the show. The format limits the use of character. The only ones who we know for sure will appear are Abby, Murray, Bert &...
From the past couple of seasons, I'd say:
Guess the Seasons (It has such a different sound than SS songs we usually hear)
Celebrity Lullabies (See, Elmo CAN be funny outside EW)
I Wonder (The best song from Season 41, I consider it a modern "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon")
I Love My Hair...
The defining of words seems so forced, I don't like it at all. Also, I still don't like the introduction to segment breaks; it seems all the shows that have inserts like that are starting to do it (Like Between the Lions, which I saw last week and did not care for, and of course Sesame Street).

A new Sesame video game coming out this fall. Now, THIS is exactly how a Sesame video should look like; not like those Wii games that recently were released.
SW has the rights to use Kermit in any old material. They'd need permission to use him in new material (such as being on the cover of the Silly Storytime DVD).
