Ashley, I got an email that somebody had replied to my 2 year old post! But since I need a break from whatever it is I'm workin' on, here's a bigger image of me and the Pajanimals from the 2011 Licensing Expo. Did the show ever end up on TV? I lost track of it.... Anyway here's the picture!
I'm not sympathizing with anyone - all I'm saying is that everyone here is quick to defend Kevin Clash and tear down his accusers, when in the first place, Clash admitted there was contact between him and the first guy, so there was some truth to that story (and it appears the guy was paid off...
Reading thru these posts, it's disheartening to me how many Muppet fans are so quick to blame the accusers, call them names, refer to them in a derogatory fashion, etc. Elmo will still be around either way - he makes too much money to retire him - and if (or when) they replace the performer, I...
Did you really just invoke Hitler?
I'm not gonna debate your wrong assertions about the Founding Fathers and Thomas Edison. What I'll say is that Kevin Clash exercised poor judgment, and to angrily condemn his accusers and put Kevin on some kind of pedestal is 100% wrong. When someone in a...
Okay - here's my feelings and opinions on Kevin Clash leaving Sesame Street. He doesn't have an option at this point. I don't know if I'm sorry to see him go or not because I am not certain about the degree of truth to the allegations. I am sorry things took a turn in this direction, but I'm...
I know this is a Muppet forum but I think you guys are worrying way too much about Elmo and Kevin Clash's career, and less about his (apparent) pattern of befriending teenagers and (apparently) entering sexual relationships with them once they're adults. (Assuming there is at least some truth to...
Thanks! Hope it's okay to post a video - this is an outtake from the film we were making. These are little interviews with the kids. I'm off camera working the puppets (which starts at about a minute in).
I wanted to show off some images from the first show based on the children's book I illustrated. I have a ways to go in both puppet building and performing but we had a fantastic time. Here's the author reading from the book...
And here's me and one of the kids, tentatively approaching...
Chris, it looks like you guys are phenomenally successful.
I quit my day job a couple months ago to pursue a couple childhood dreams. Hope it pans out as well as yours seem to have done...!
Buck I just read your write up. Great job.
I didn't realize Jerry Nelson's health had declined to the extent that he was in a wheelchair or on oxygen. I'm glad all that's behind him now. What a long, fantastic career he had. He was so good at what he did. He didn't play those characters, he...
What a shame. These guys, even though Jim Henson and Richard Hunt are gone, you still want to think the rest of them will be around forever.
Wherever he is, may he be in peace. He'll forever be part of my childhood that I was glad to have around in adulthood.
Thanks!
These guys were all trial and error. The dog's "muzzle" is carved, or sculpted, out of 6 inch thick foam that Joanne Fabric had on sale. Everything else is pieced together out of other "clearance" foam.
The toughest part for me was the eyes. I could find no plastic spoons of the size...
Last post on this, I swear! Here's the 100% completed Buddy puppet. My business partner (and the guy who wrote the book I illustrated the characters for) absolutely loved it, except his hand was a little too big to fit easily inside the neck. Whoops!
Also, Propologist asked about Bird's beak. Here's a side and a 3/4 view. It doesn't look as pointy as I'd like but it's foam rubber and fabric. Is there a better way to do this besides creating a mold and casting it in rubber or plastic or something?
Okay guys, an update. I've almost finished the Buddy puppet. Muppetperson, thanks for the tip - but I think I posted an old version of the characters. Here's the characters:
And here's Buddy:
Thoughts??
Hey Mike - thanks for the comment. I'll post a 3/4 view later on but I'll tell you the beak didn't turn out as pointy as I would have liked. It looked fine when it was just foam, but when I covered it in fleece, some of the pointiness went away. I had no end of trouble building this thing.
I built Bird, from the children's book I illustrated, Buddy and Bird. (http://www.buddyandbird.com)
I think he turned out okay but the beak was a gigantic pain. I'm working on Buddy and hopefully he'll turn out better.
Thoughts? Critiques??
GSmiley, I think they're using the same puppeteers. From what I understood, it was the same crew, just longer episodes (which were already in production).
For me, it was cool to see a professional Muppet (having seen a couple at the Smithsonian, but not up close and in action). Being able to...
