Wow, that was REALLY good! Your use of puns is exemplary. In the cold opening, I thought it was just stretching out with the talking fiddle, when it was actually leading to another pun that I didn't see coming!
Love the bit with the hypnotizing alligator and the reinforcement with the instant...
The reason I went with the Bond song instead was that in my original draft, I had Carly catch the spy ring during the closing number. I only changed that at the last minute, but by that point I was pretty committed to the spy theme.
I picked the bat song because I wanted to include something...
Brown Bat & LCM Dave Goelz. Was originally thinking Dave Goelz for Rex Goliath, in a Boober Fraggle voice, as well, but with so many other characters for Dave in this episode, not so sure. If not Dave, I guess it would be Jerry or Frank.

I ALMOST went that route. Kept going back and forth between "You're So Vain" with Link, and "Nobody Does It Better" in keeping with the spy theme.

In interviews, Carly Simon has said that when she was a little girl, when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she would answer "a spy". Doing the theme for a James Bond movie ("The Spy Who Loved Me", 1977) was the next best thing. So I found what I thought was a neat way to...

And the rewritten goodnights:
GOODNIGHTS: Kermit enters.
Kermit: "Well, we've done everything we planned to do, as well as some things better left unsaid. But before we go, let's have a warm thank you for our special guest star, Leon Redbone!"
(APPLAUSE. Leon enters.)
Leon: "Thanks...
Turns out, I DID move that scene:
BACKSTAGE: Lembeck makes some notes at Kermit's desk as the VH crew returns from the stage.
Kermit: "Nice going, way to go!"
(to Lembeck)
"Uh, how's it going, Mr. Lembeck?"
Lembeck: "Ah, I've just gotten your quote approved, Mr. Frog. Here, take a look."...
I might update this at some point. If I had it to do over again, I would move Lembeck's scene where he gives Kermit an approved insurance quote to the last backstage scene rather than the goodnights.
Busted up laughing at this. Finding just the right reference is the difference between a good line and a great one. Kudos! Or kudus, even!

Favorite parts:
- "third-degree battery"
- the Thog reference
- "ersatz duo"
- Piggy pulling strings re: the rewards gate
- a reference to eagles being able to fly
- Monticello
- a book all about the Monroe Doctrine
- cockroaches claiming squatter's rights
- packing a lot of clothes for someone...
I would say because it's played very much at face value. Hopefully it won't last beyond the pilot / first episode. If they're really interested in mining character relationships, of which I'm definitely in favor, then simple dismissal isn't going to do much for it.
Whoa, let's not go off...
