I read somewhere that another writer, Michael J Goldberg has left the show. I wonder if they hired any new writers for season 47 or if the other writers just have more to do now. Does anyone else wonder who will take over from Joey?

This has nothing to do with the photographer since I don't know how old he was or if he watched SST on a regular basis or even at all. But another thing that bothers me is, when people who watched the show regularly in the 80s,90s and early 2000s don't know who Telly is.

Hmm that is true. Maybe it grew back but it's just not magic anymore.

I've never heard any kid having a speech impediment just because they like Elmo or Cookie Monster or Baby Bear for that matter. As for Elmo taking over the show, let's not forget that Big Bird appeared in almost every single episode of the first 33 years of the show.
