How ya doin', Aaron! Great to have you back. Welcome to the next generation of Muppet Central! Most of the guys from the old days are gone, but you've still got people like me and Muppet Master to show you the ropes ;).
Well, over on the Tough Pigs forum, someone said something that made a lot of sense. The Muppets lost Jim at the very beginning of the 90s, and then Richard Hunt just two years later, and Frank Oz was performing less and less. They were effectively missing three of their most important players...
A couple of my favorite Muppet moments:
Now, this post isn't really about the Muppets per say, it's more about the fans. Through all that's gone on over the years, be it Steve Whitmire's departure, the canceling of the TV show, Jerry Nelson's death, longtime Sesame cast members getting fired...
I love Jenny, i'm especially familiar with her through Zootopia and Parks and Rec. Plus, she actually managed to make the most recent Chipmunks movie somewhat watchable at times. I'd love to see her work with SST in some capacity. She's one of those comedians that would fit well because she's...
Yeah, but luckily they still have a lot of guys they can call on when they need extra performers.
What bothers me is the fact that, during the Muppet Show they came up with new characters every year. Even some from specials like Bean Bunny, or guys from JHH and Muppets Tonight have stuck...
Certainly Jim originated the character, and he's one of the people all future performers will draw inspiration from, but I don't think there's any one definitive Kermit, or Miss Piggy, or Dr. Teeth. The REAL Kermit is whoever is playing him at that time. If it was just one person's character...
Exactly. It would not have been a satisfying ending if he just left the toys at her house and just went off to college. The toys would've just felt abandoned again, and the audience wouldn't even know if Bonnie was ever going to play with them.
Yep, I really hope Billy gets to perform more characters. He seems to be a versatile and funny guy. *sighs. So many changes in the Muppet world in just a couple of years. Still glad we're finally gonna see more of Peter though.
The Surprise song exceeded my expectations. It's sketches like that that make you realize why the cast members stayed on the show as long as they did. They all look like they're having so much fun! Also, it's always really great to get to see Frank Oz's characters interact with the human cast.
That's very odd. Clearly Steve and the Hensons must've had problems with each other for a while. I think Cheryl is finally letting out some pint up feelings she's had bottled up for a while.
Meanwhile, because there's so much speculation, heartache, and no payoff, i'm just gonna stop paying...
Yeah, i'm done with it all. I won't be commenting about this again. The only posts remotely related to this that i'll be making are the ones related to Matt's debut as Kermit.
Yeah, that's true. It's kind of easy to lose you're mind with all that's been going on, so we'll see. Although, I wouldn't be opposed to a more experienced performer like Peter taking over Ernie.
First of all, UGH, I hate anonymous sources, because you never know if they're true or not.
But, second, I really hope Steve was aware of all this already, otherwise I imagine all of this coming out at once would really do a number on his ego.
