I have a classmate that's descended from Captain Kidd. Awesome, huh?
And I do believe that there was a real Johnny Appleseed, and the common folktale regarding him is something like 70% true.
Naw, mine's a tank! :) Actually, I've only made MC posts from a few locations: my computer in the house study; my grandfather's computer; my aunt Dianne's computer in Vermont; and a hotel public computer in Massachusetts.
Thanks for the nice words, guys. I always appreciate comments like...
I've got some Newfoundland stuff coming along from my grandfather. He usually remembers lots of great folk tales and things, so I'm sure you'll like that. :)
Oh, you guys get them in those little tubes, right?
I also prefer:
Spring & autumn over summer & winter (a good balance)
Movies over television
Books over movies
Washing a car over any other kind of cleaning :)
"Golf" shirts over ties
The Confederate flag over the 50 Stars
Germany...
I've got another, with apologies to Harvey:
An American was vacationing over in Scotland. Sitting on a park bench one afternoon reading his book, he was disturbed by the sounds of a bagpiper a good twenty yards across from his seat. He was annoyed by the piper's squeals and scrawls, and...
Man, you really must come by Nova Scotia some time! I think you Americans know "Smarties" as those little orange-and-blue colored pure sugar candies that come in red plastic wrappers twisted at both ends. Here, Smarties are sort of like M & Ms, only bigger and markedly sweeter. Here's a picture...
Good Lord, where do you live? Mars?????? 30 C weather in March (or here any time before mid-July) is truly unheard of in most of Canada! Man, you're lucky! :) :) :)
This could well become something big, man!
I prefer:
-Soft chocolate chip cookies over hard
-Widescreen movies over full (probably the only absolute preference in my life)
-Thick crust pizza over thin
-PCs over Macs
-The Beach Boys over the Beatles
-Ham over pork
-MC over Tough Pigs...
Well, I hope not. Usually we Nova Scotians (and Canadians in general- back me up, MrsPepper!) get pelted like crazy with snowstorms from around late December to sometime in March. For the past two winters the snow piles around the edges of my driveway have been over my father's head, and he's...
Really? I'm assuming Red was because of her hair and Gobo is based on the term "go-between" as he goes between the Fraggle and human worlds, but where did Boober get his name?
OK, I'd be happy to give you a couple of Nova Scotian myths. If you search around, you can probably find these in a book. Most of the time, you're reading a single version of the story (about 85% of the time), but the other 15% is an amalgam of many versions of the story. Hope you like them...
OK, here's two lyrics.
"My Diane" by the Beach Boys
Now that I have lost my diane
There?s no plan as to where to go
It was hard to lose my diane
Now I just miss her so
Everything is old and nothing is new
All I ever do is think of you
Memories haunt me night and day...
I've got a whole bunch, so I'll have to do the by-artist thing as well. Here goes:
Beach Boys: Love You, Pet Sounds, Today!
Monkees: Headquarters, Pisces Aquarius..., Instant Replay
Brian Wilson: Orange Crate Art, Brian Wilson (my all-time favorite album)
They Might Be Giants: Lincoln...
