I know what you mean -- I've been holding onto my last 5 yards of it for this movie I'm about to start and I have no idea if I'll be able to get enough to finish the project. I figure what I have will maybe make 3 puppets -- and i need enough to make about 8.
Obviously. there's a demand for...
Thanks! I have to say that the best thing you can do is experiment. I've drawn these characters for years and continually try to make the puppets look more and more like the drawings. I think too many people think "this is close enough" when trying to match something -- or so many hours go into...
Still chugging along. Having our first cast script reading on Saturday. Very cool to actually be getting to this stage of production! Here's a short clip of me messing around with one of my old puppets and a standee, testing camera lenses. If you haven't already, you might want to invest in a...
Also -- that puppet that was built maybe 7 years ago and deteriorated after about 2 years of use -- it's sitting in my office at work and now that I'm not handling him as much hasn't deteriorated much at all in the last 5 years of sitting in an office under fluorescent lights. I think the...
I would say that Polar Fleece is fine for that sort of thing. The puppet in my avatar is actually a puppet made from polar fleece. One of the benefits of Polar fleece is that it won't do that sparkly thing that happens when you use a flash with a digital camera, so I'd think making a puppet for...
I never had to shave it -- though I sort of like the kind of knobby look. Polar Fleece will actually do that after a while as well -- I've had pretty good luck making polar fleece look like Antron by using a hair brush (with bristles -- not a comb) lightly on all of the seams. It'll basically...
That's about the only part of the construction that I still do with hot glue -- though I have used contact cement a couple of times, and it is a lot better (especially if you ever have to remove the fleece for repairs). I just find it's easier to get a thin line of hot glue than to get the...
I had a friend just make something similar for one of my puppets. He used a flashlight he found at a 99 cent store and requred it. It works great and has the battery pack and switch already hardwired in place. All he had to do was disconnect the bulb and add wire.
Sounds great! I wish I could find my half-converted Gonzo -- it was coming along nicely, but it disappeared during my last move. If I find it during next week's garage sale, I'll post some pictures.
I'm kind of on the fence about it as well. I find myself wondering a lot more about "How did they do that?" when I see Kermit with his rods digitally removed, which I never do when I watch the Muppet Show. I think it's a lot easier to enjoy the performance without everything being "perfect."...
It's really weird because I feel like I did almost nothing on this project up until about 8 months ago... it seems weird that I would stew over something like this for 4 years, then attack it with such a passion again. Of course, most of the work I've done recently has been because I finally...
