There's 4 DVDs in a fold out box ( contained in a slipcase ). I haven't had a chance to check all the discs yet, but no special features are listed on the packaging. Seems to be just the episodes and nothing more :(
Very nice photos of the characters on the box, though.
I picked this up in the Dublin branch of Tower Records today ( not supposed to be released until Monday but they'd put it out early ). For anyone who was wondering if the region 2 set would include the UK versions set on the lighthouse, the answer is no. It's the US version with The Doc. While...
As far as I recall, the vast majority of UK episodes cannot be located. Whether this means they've been stored incorrectly or accidently wiped I'm not sure. I think only 12 remain, all of which were released by HIT a few years back.
Unless all the other eps have been relocated, I expect the...
Many, many thanks for the link to that clip! I've been trying to track down all Doglion's appearances and that was one of the few ones left I'd never seen :)
I'd consider Sir Didymus a Muppet in an otherwise 'Creature' movie. I know that appearance isn't really a criteria, but that's just how I think of him.
I remember an interview with John Cleese where he mentioned that TMS was 'the' thing to be on in the late 70s and that one of the main reasons he did it was to impress his kid. He also had a cameo in a 'Doctor Who' episode around the same time and gave the same 'for the kid' excuse. Yes, John...
It's just the impression I got more than anything else. His interaction with the Muppets seems far less than any other guest, although this could simply be an illusion caused by the unusual structure of his episode. He did turn up again in 'Muppets Go Hollywood' so maybe he did enjoy himself...
The first two are the best and regularly turn up on Ebay for less than $5. Well worth getting hold of. The good thing is that they were pretty sturdy, so even after 30 years a lot of them are still in fairly good shape.
Although the rest of the episode isn't so great, I do really like the 'Has Anybody Seen My Bird?' finale from the Liberace ep. Then again, I am a big fan of Muppet birds :)
Then there's 'Just in Time', which finishes out the Cloris Leachman episode. Wonderful use of Sweetums & Doglion.
And...
Probably true. From what I've heard, Sellers could be an absolute nightmare to work with. I'd imagine it's highly likely there was some tension with him behind the scenes on TMS. Then again, maybe he was utterly pleasant :)
There was a great book released back in the 90s called 'The Star Wars Archives' which featured hundreds of photos of all the props, costumes and creatures used in the original 'Star Wars' trilogy. I would absolutely LOVE it if someone were to publish a similar book dedicated to The Muppets. They...
Over the past month or so I've been watching the first three seasons again ( plus a couple of random 'Best of' discs with some seasons 4 & 5 material ), and as I've watched each ep I've been wondering which guest stars really enjoyed themselves and which ones were thinking "What am I doing on...
My personal favourite of the 'main' Muppet gang, Gonzo, looked best to my eyes in season 2. He continued to look good in seasons 3 to 5 and up until the early 90s, but the current version of the puppet looks a little 'off'. Not sure exactly what it is... maybe the larger nose.
As for my...
I'm a big fan of the Muppet monsters and while Carl is second fiddle to the 'greats' of the Jim Henson era, he's still a lot of fun. I only have vague memories of 'Muppets Tonight' but I absolutely loved him in that 'Stand by Me' short.
Super 8 films were generally chopped down from the full length versions. It was a home film format in the pre-VCR days, and for a long time would have been the only way to 'own' a film ( or at least a portion of it ) without having a copy of the actual 35mm prints. They could be played on the...
