^ Well, it was when everybody was looking at that museum display with replicas of the monsters they've "uncovered." It wasn't actually there but I swear *somebody* mentions the cheese monster at some point. So it was a shout-out to Pup, meaning they've known each since they were kids.

Shouldn't Fred's hair be blond? I always thought the gang was either in high school or college, so unless Fred suddenly decided to dye his hair in college or something... Also, I'm pretty sure in the second live action movie (and I don't know why I know this) they mention a cheese monster...
