Maybe I'm being too glass-half-full here, but even a quick scan of the 2014 North American box office figures has me feeling a little better about MMW's performance.
We're nearly halfway through the year and MMW is in the Top 25 of all films released (specifically, it's #24). That's not...
It all depends on how you define "minor Muppet" (is the Swedish Chef minor? Is Rizzo? Sam Eagle?) but I like some of the choices I've seen here.
I'm loving that Sweetums and Lew Zealand have had more to do in recent Muppet films and productions - they're surprisingly versatile and Sweetums in...
ABC ran that ad again last night (TWICE!) during reruns of its big Wednesday night sitcoms. I'm just giddy that we still get to see these great Muppet commercials - I mean, this is going on five months since the "trailers" started showing up online! :) :) :)
This might seem completely random but I was recently watching the MMW B-roll on YouTube and I found myself laughing (once again) at the fact that all Constantine can get out of his mouth is "IT'S..." before he freezes up at the start of the Berlin show.
To me, there's an extra layer of humour...
That wasn't bad, albeit weirdly-timed (it seemed like this was designed to be run on MMW's debut weekend but got mysteriously pushed back).
The host was clearly enthusiastic about what she was doing and that added to the good vibes of the whole presentation, although I was a little annoyed...
Glad you got to see it again! I'm hoping that a little community-run dollar-theatre in my hometown will consider running it later this spring or summer, just before it hits home media (they specialize in "recently-run" movies), so I can see it in all its glory on a big screen one more time.
In...
I'm with you there. That goes right back to A Green and Red Christmas - Disney is putting some creativity and effort into making Muppet music, and that alone is reason to celebrate.
This may seem like small potatoes for a lot of people but I'd love to see MMW hang around in theatres long enough to outgross MCC before the home release in August. They're within striking distance now and it'd be very cool to see MMW finish 6th overall on the all-time Muppet movie box office...
A couple of things that truly surprise me about the recent box-office developments:
(1) Million Dollar Arm only made $10 million? Really? Mrs. Otter and I were looking forward to seeing that. (But, again, there's the much-needed reminder that Disney has had much bigger disappointments than...
I still get a grand charge out of these songs and this soundtrack, two months to the day after purchasing it (which happened about three hours after we saw the actual movie).
There's so much about MMW's music that makes me laugh and smile and sing along. The last two times I had "We're Doing A...
Just watched the extended clip - when I actually saw the movie (two months ago today? Already???) I didn't catch that the police wagon that takes Kermit away has a sign reading "PLOTPOINTBURG" before it flips over to "SIBERIAN GULAG." I love catching little gags like that on a second or third...
I think we can all agree that MMW didn't do the business Disney might have hoped for, particularly given the performance of TM2011 and the relentless media push Disney gave the movie in the first three months of 2014. (I mean, seriously, people - they even bought the freakin' Super Bowl pre-game...
Mrs. Otter and I don't watch anything on ABC, either.
Well, Dancing With The Stars on Mondays.
Oh, and S.H.I.E.L.D., The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife on Tuesdays.
And The Middle, Suburgatory, Modern Family and Nashville on Wednesdays.
And we're doing what we can to catch The Neighbors on Fridays...
I think there's going to be a tremendous surprise reaction when MMW hits the home audience (Blu-Ray/DVD but also TV airings) and people who might have shrugged it off see how good it actually is. I, personally, am looking forward to that.
Good to see it's still playing in a few hundred...
I didn't get NBC at the time the show aired, and Canada's national broadcaster (CBC) ran the episodes somewhat out-of-order and on a sporadic schedule - a couple of them (including "Secrets of the Muppets" and "Dog City") actually aired after Jim's death in the spring of 1990, giving them a very...
I didn't necessarily dislike Viva Rock Vegas (I was referring to the box-office figures - it pulled in about $35 million, nearly $100 million off the 1994 Flintstones update, which was likely very disappointing to the studio and everyone involved).
A part of me is sad that the prequel didn't...
Hard to know what Disney would consider a "viable franchise" at this point. MMW certainly isn't the box office bonanza we all wanted (it should hit $49 million by the end of the week and will likely top out at $50 million by the time the theatrical run ends over the next week or so) but we have...
The weird thing about the lower number of theatres is that is seems like there's a higher number of tickets being sold per theatre than there were earlier in the month - so people are actually still going to see MMW in places where it's still playing. So maybe Slackbot's experience is a common...
Nicely done, Pinkflower. :)
Also: While I do miss some of previous Sesame/TMS-cast interactions, I think it would have been too complicated to try to wedge Sesame cameos into the two Disney Muppet films (and I am BEYOND THRILLED that Elmo didn't show up).
And: Nobody's brought this up yet...
I've only seen it once but would love to see it again on a big screen before it's done - sadly, theatres showing it in my neck of the woods require a minimum 90-minute drive, and with my tight schedule that's pretty much out of the question.
But we have a new project in our town that sees...
