1. I wasn't going by the Wiki, I was going by Box Office Mojo - which does have international sales for at least the post-Jim movies. I just didn't include them here.
2. Spielberg and Jackson are big names, which should hopefully push the film more here. Either way, it will make a profit...
Tintin is already doing quite well - made back its entire budget already before being released over here. No surprise, as he's a beloved character in the UK.
Also, I'm confused as to which part of that paragraph you were referring to with "Domestically."
I really love the way Tough Pigs describes this moment:
"That part in The Great Muppet Caper when Kermit and Piggy are arguing because she lied to him about being Lady Holliday, and he tells her she's overacting, and she gets insulted and starts crying, and he comforts her and apologizes, and...
I just thought of something - I would love if a new Muppet Show, in addition to Very Special Guest Stars, had cameos of famous people actually playing roles within the show, the same way 30 Rock will have Conan playing himself but have Steve Buscemi show up as a character. I feel like there's a...
I remember really digging this movie. I wish we got more Sesame Street movies - I kinda wish Abby in Wonderland had been filmed for and released in theaters, and I know I can't be the only one yearning for a Super Grover movie.
I've always been kind of into the idea of either a Sims-like game, where you run the Muppet Theater, or a point-and-click type game (think Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Sam and Max, et cetera). I dunno. This is why I'm not a game designer :o
There's no reason to think we can't do $80 mil by the New Year. However, and I'm willing to bet this - this could be the first Muppet movie that makes $100 million when all's said and done. It still hasn't seen release in the UK, which is going to end up counting for a lot.
That's my guess and hope. I don't see the Oscars as any sort of official stamp of approval on what is the best and what isn't - they work best as pageantry. But I would just really love to see these songs get some well-earned love.
The Gandalf I saw was solid, but we'd have seen entirely different ones, I think (unless Toronto's went to London). For the most part, it's the technical wizardry that blew me away - I'm normally a very minimalist kind of guy when it comes to theatre, but every once in a while I like to sit back...
Enchanted received three nominations for Best Song; I see no reason why we can't honor "Life's a Happy Song", "Pictures in My Head", AND "Man or Muppet" with nominations. C'mon, voters!
This isn't exactly a "headline" - but I do think it's important, especially with all the talk around here that the movie is not "doing well." The Muppets has now made (as of this writing) $67,473,645, according to Box Office Mojo. Here are the lifetime grosses of the previous Muppet movies:
The...
Got some free time before a few high school friends come over, so I'm listening to this musical:
I had the fortune of seeing this musical (front row, too!) in 2006 while in Toronto. It didn't do especially well - I had heard it was supposed to move to Broadway, but it still hasn't, and I'm...
That's one of my weird, small issues. I LOVE the gag, but it's a little odd how it's treated like canon, as I am fairly certain we have never seen "Muppet Man" before. I want to know the backstory.
In other news, going with two good friends to see it tonight. They haven't yet, so it'll be great...
"The Rainbow Connection," but I admit that's more because of how I romanticize the first time we hear it in The Muppet Movie. As a Kermit song? "Bein' Green," no contest.
