Sorry for the bump, but I feel like I should give my two cents.
When it comes to the old one, I can't say for sure, since I never rode that version, but I could tell by some of my friends that it needed a renovation.
As for the new one, I love it. I've been on this ride twice (I'd ride it...
I want to say it's Preachification of Convincing John. My parents watched the original run on HBO in the 80's and I just caught reruns on Disney in the 90's. I was mesmerized and have been so ever since.
It's just his sheer obliviousness to everything (Statue of Liberty is French, karaoke is Japanese, American Woman was done by a Canadian band, yet the Canadian bit made Sam fly off the handle) that made the short work. Personally, it was the funniest Virmup since Beaker's Ballad.
Call me the devil's advocate here but I think Sprocket looks alright for the most part. Sure, there's flaws, mainly his eyes and posture, but otherwise, he's not bad at all.
If it does end up being made, I just hope it isn't like every other movie based on an 80's franchise, where the only resemblance to the original source is either the characters or the title.
The one thing I can think of is either character recognition or rarity.
For character recognition, some of the more well known characters flew off the shelves before lesser known guys did. Then again, Zoot didn't exactly hog the spotlight, and he is the most sought after of all the Palisades...
Me-I can't wait to go bowling tomorrow with some of the guys.
Mokey-That sounds nice. Be careful now, we don't want you back in the hospital.
Me-I'll keep on my toes.
Cantus-That's good. Say, where's Wembley?
Me-He's still hanging out with Liza. The love each other to pieces, you know...
