So THIS is the Latest Trend Now?

In some cases, the more successful a musical originally was, the higher the expectations of any revival or remake. The expectations are even higher comparing it to an iconic movie version. The original Broadway run of The Wiz was incredible, due to Stephanie Mills' performance as Dorothy. The...

    RIP Paul Kantner (1941-2016)

Another musical icon leaves us. Paul Kantner sang and played with the Jefferson Airplane and put San Francisco on the musical map. Blending folk music with sci-fi lyrics, Paul co-wrote "Wooden Ships" with David Crosby and Stephen Stills, dropped a few M-bombs in "We Can Be Together", and...

    Etienne Delessert cartoons

Some of these, especially the apple tree clip, have been attributed to Terry Gilliam. Beautiful visuals, twisted mind. But while Gilliam's cartoons move, they don't always flow. Still nice to know he wasn't the only sick puppy out there.

    R.I.P. Abe Vigoda

Abe Vigoda was the definition of "Old School". He made it cool to be a gritty gumshoe cop. He made it cool to be a mob boss. He even made it cool to have hemorrhoids. His spin-off from " Barney Miller", "Fish", also starred a young Todd Bridges to liven things up. Thanks, Abe. You were a class act.

What made you roll your eyes today thread?

Might as well blame Obama for the foot of snow being dumped on us right now.

Should we get more hand drawn movies in our time?.

It would be great if Don Bluth could pull off one more 2D masterpiece (and at 78, he ain't getting any younger), but the format requires three major expenditures: 1. Time 2. Labor 3. Money Then finding a strong story, a studio to finance and market your film, dealing with merchandising tie-ins...

Separating the art from the artist: Is it always possible?

Yes. It takes two to tango.

Separating the art from the artist: Is it always possible?

I'm also torn with Cosby's allegations. Because he was regarded as a standard bearer for how black men should act, it makes him look like a complete hypocrite IF the allegations are true. Yes, he was a staple of my childhood: Sesame Street, Electric Company, Fat Albert, PicturePages, a truckload...

Now I gotta dig out that Seinfeld episode with "Desperado".

What sketches scared you as a kid?

The face-morphing clips mentioned before didn't bother me, but this elevator clip more than made up for it. When I was little, my grandparents lived in a tenth floor apartment, and an elevator like this was the only way up. Took me until I was six to get over it. The nice thing, over the last 15...

    Dealing with depression and anxiety

Your boyfriend most of all would miss you. You still have your whole life in front of you. I know you've been tortured by the anger and hate in your family. But the love others have for you is stronger than that. And God's love is the strongest of all.

Where are all these classic Sesame Street episodes coming from?

I'm still holding out for a few gems from Season One- English versions of songs like "Gone With the Wind", " Windy", and "Up Up and Away". The phantom poster (or not-so-phantom) has already shortened my Bucket List quite a bit, I can only be grateful for what we've been treated to so far. Like...

    Dealing with depression and anxiety

There are a lot more people willing to help you than you think. Talking to your advisor is a good start. Talking to others and coming out of your shell is one of the best things you can do. The person you feel you may have hurt, don't keep it bottled up. Tell them how you feel. They'll...

    Dealing with depression and anxiety

I'm proud of how you're handling a tough time. And you are right stating "I can do this". And you're not doing it alone. You have your boyfriend, Abuela and Prima (and a few of us here from a distance). And your walk with God will only make you stronger. I know too racism is such an ugly form of...

David Bowie dies at age 69

Besides "Labyrinth", Bowie also stole the show in " The Man Who Fell To Earth". "Space Oddity", " Rebel Rebel", "Jean Genie", " Suffragette City" is all I've been playing today. Thanks for all your tunes, David. Your acting, your painting, you never wasted a moment standing still.

    Dealing with depression and anxiety

You hit the nail on the head. You're GROWING. As long as you see that in yourself, you'll find it easier to enjoy life. At your age you'll keep seeing changes, and that's good. One of the worst things that can happen to someone is see ten, twenty, thirty years go by, and never change. Especially...

    Dealing with depression and anxiety

I didn't .get married until I was 32. And by then most of my classmates were having kids or getting married a second time. There seemed to be this fear "if I'm not settled down by the time I'm 30 I'll be alone forever". Don't buy into that.
