    The Random Memory thread

My family grew up in Newark, NJ. Both sets of grandparents lived two blocks from each other. By the mid-70's everybody moved out. Once in a blue moon I drive past, wondering, for the last 40+ years, who has been living there since.

    Ehhhh. . . . I'll Bite

Thread bump. Don't penalize me. Any favorite recurring character on M*A*S*H? Sidney Friedman? Colonel Flagg? Rosie? I'm partial to Scully. I wish they did more with him- give Margaret another love interest, or give Hawkeye and BJ another drinking buddy.

    Questions about anything

The Magic Garden was a kids show from the early 70's. That's Carole and Paula, and the pink squirrel was Sherlock. If you were a kid in 1972, and were from New York, this was your Must-See TV. 45 years later, Carole and Paula still have a cult following, still perform live, and haven't aged at...

Silly things you said, did, or thought as a kid

1971. I was three, my sister was eight. My sister went to dancing school and the time came for her big recital. Ten girls dressed up in their pink ballerina tutus doing their rendition of "Swan Lake". Guess who's little kid brother ran up halfway through the performance, and started to boogie...

    Confessing Crushes...

I got a story of not who I had a crush on, but who had a crush on me. Minnie Mouse. I've been lucky enough to go to Disney World three times in my life: when I was six, my senior year in high school, and my honeymoon. Each time I went, Minnie's crush on me blossomed. Back when I was little...

Silly things you said, did, or thought as a kid

When I was little, it took me longer than other kids to learn to tie my shoes. I think I was six or seven when I finally mastered this skill, but I felt so far behind the curve. Velcro shoes weren't invented yet, so you had to learn to tie your shoes, rely on others to tie them for you, or go...

The New What Made You Frown Today Thread

I'm sorry for your loss, too. I'm sorry for your loss, too. But to think you'll never see him again, let this sink in: 1 Corinthians 2:9 "But as it is written, what no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him". As I got older...

    Fellow Church People

Something about that sounds wrong to me, too, but I think I know where he's coming from. There are many who come to Christ after ignoring Him their whole lives. Even murderers can still come to Him. They still have to answer for what they've done, but God would never want to turn anyone away...

    Drtooth, if you're out there...

I agree. Church is not a one-size-fits-all thing. But there's bound to be one somewhere for the good Doctor where he'll be welcomed, accepted, and be on the receiving end of love and compassion. But that's his move, I can't make it for him.

    Drtooth, if you're out there...

Something else I might add. Maybe, like me, you were dragged to church when you were little and the experience turned you off. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. That was when I was five. But I'm not five anymore, and neither are you.

    Drtooth, if you're out there...

I've tried reaching out the best I can in the past. But if you're so inclined to read this, it might help with things in your life. Confused? Depressed? Disappointed with how life turned out? I felt the same way when I was about your age. A lot of people offering advice that didn't really help...

The new What Made You Smile Today thread

One of the elders at our church invited a number of us over for dinner last night. Perfect weather, great company, and unbelievable food. The main dish was paella. For those of you that never had it, it's a Spanish dish similar to jambalaya. Yellow rice, peas, peppers, chicken legs, chorizo...

    RIP Adam West

The series was awesome, and I love how much they played it up for laughs. Two favorite memories: Often Batman and Robin would be seen climbing up the side of a building, defying gravity (actually, the camera was turned on its side, so they were actually walking on a stage floor, not clinging to...

    Happy Birthday D'Snowth!!!

Happy Joint Birthday to you and ol' Ferret Face. Maybe Hawkeye and BJ will stage a fight to commemorate your natal anniversary. Thanks for another year of being the heart and soul of this place. Cheers.

    When you need to rant...

Disney helped with that trend. Not just SNL members, but comics in general. After their stand up careers ended, Disney put a number of them to work. Cheech and Chong (separately, not together), and Denis Leary come to mind. Robin Williams' stand up days were long behind him by the time Aladdin...
