Well, it was the first season, so not a lot of things were 'set' so to speak, so they can say whatever they wanted, because they were just beginning and they were seeing what works.

In the old DVD of The Muppet Movie, when you see Kermit wearing boots as he's marching out of Bunsen's lab, you can look at the very top of the screen, you can see hands holding the top of the legs, making them walk out.
