Sorry about disappearing like that ... I'm in a play in Los Angeles that just opened, and had weeklong rehearsals leading up to it.
But, I have been thinking. Here's my (and my wife's) two cents:
The Adventures of Geri and Jules
Join a young Grrrl Trooper named Geri and her loyal dog...
The quicker and easier the better. I think this is the sort of thing that can evolve (and gain complexity) as it goes.
We maybe should lay down some ground rules, just so we're on the same page. Like, no profanity; avoiding the "three things you don't talk about in mixed company (sex...
Well, the idea would be to create a very simple puppet pattern. Not something complex and heavily carved, covered in 12 different types of fur and fleece with eye mechs. I'm thinking Kermit the Frog simple. Two or three pieces of fabric that get sewn together and voila - it's the puppet...
I know there have been a few attempts to put together some sort of a online puppet show with contributions from literally all over the world shot by the puppeteers who frequent this forum.
I also know that so far, it hasn't happened.
Well, I have a new proposal - Let's do an open source...
About 70 people in attendance. I expected a line around the block at 7:00 am, which is a very puppet-nerd thing to expect. ("Where is everybody? Don't they know how COOL this is?!?")
Jeff is the Disney guy. Kevin Clash is the dude in charge of Sesame Muppets.

The auditioners were Kevin Clash, Martin Baker and Jeff Conover. Kevin we all know. Martin said he had produced Muppet projects.
Jeff is the Puppet Master down in Florida, and was the chief auditioner for Playhouse Disney at DCA when I auditioned. He also ran us through a puppetry workshop...
"The Candyman" by Sammy Davis Jr. was replaced with "Hey Ya" by Outkast. Just a heads-up to you Toronto goers.
I got cut after the monitor portion as well. I know a few folks who made it to the voices section, and I know one guy who made the callbacks.
I'm local, so I feel rather...
I should say, I don't know anything about the union scene on the Disney Cruise lines. I have a friend who has worked as a dancer on the Disney Magic. If I see her, I'll ask her.

Buck is right as far as MOST Disney puppeteers go. The vast majority are considered to be part of the Character Department, and are not union. I was told by a manager that we (Playhouse Disney - Live On Stage!) weren't union because we "lip-synced" to a prerecorded track.
However, the few...
Nope, I left Disney at the end of Spring '04. I've toyed around with the idea of going back (if they'd have me) but I can't get around the economics of the situation.
I had a great time whilst there, and still have friendships I made with fellow puppeteers.
My "real" name is Andrew Moore...
A great guy I worked with on pilot (I was his "left hand" for a couple of days) studies animation out at Cal Arts.
You can find his website at www.ronimation.com. He even has a sort of homage to the Muppet Show in his "Films" section. Look for "The Producer's Show".
Just about everything...
You got it. The way I was taught, when people talk we don't flip our heads back, we lower our jaws. So it should be with puppets.
Of course, rules are made to be broken (for instance when Kermit gets agitated, the top of his head flies backwards like mad.) But that's not a license to throw...
Well, I wasn't going to go there, but ...
The puppetry downright sucks. Bad puppetry trivializes and degrades the artform, period. (just like bad acting, bad songwriting, bad filmmaking - you name it!) There are basics - keep your head and exposed arm out of frame, don't "flip-top" when...
I watched the clips and found them horrifyingly funny, like that one scene in the “South Park” movie between Saddam and Satan in their bedroom. You know the scene.
That said, I don’t know that a show like this would hold my attention for more than a couple of seasons. It seems to be shock...
6' 1".
The first thing the casting dude asked me when he saw me was "How tall are you?" (It was more of a statement than a question.)
Eh. Tall enough for Bear.
He told me that they were looking for shorter puppeteers, since they were doubling the puppeteers with dancers. Dancers...
A friend of mine - Russ got cast. And I met Sean at a Swazzle audition last summer. Small world!
The puppets were not complete, but I got to wear a "head" and "hand" when I auditioned. I'm not sure if they changed the operation, but I operated the jaw with my right hand, keeping my arm in...
I saw it - pretty cool!
I auditioned for it ... but I was too tall.
It's great to see puppetry in wider application (at least in commercials.)
